“As a second generation Canadian, I have witnessed first-hand the intersectional barriers that immigrants face on a daily basis. Through my work as a Canadian immigration lawyer, I am reminded each day of how fortunate I am to be able to call Canada my home. I want to provide the same opportunity to others who wish to make Canada their home.”

Oshani was called to the Ontario Bar in 2020 after articling at an immigration law firm. After her articles, Oshani practised at an immigration law firm in downtown Toronto before joining Long Mangalji LLP. Her practise encompasses all areas of immigration law. She is a member of the Canadian Bar Association and the Ontario Bar Association – Citizenship and Immigration Law Section.

Oshani is passionate about using legal advocacy to facilitate access to justice. In 2017, she was selected by the Government of Canada as Youth Delegate to the United Nations (UN) where she attended the 72nd Regular Session of the UN General Assembly. She participated in international roundtable discussions on issues related to migration and refugees, human rights, women empowerment, and the Sustainable Development Goals.

While in law school, Oshani worked as an intern for a refugee law clinic in her local community and was a member of the Transnational Environmental Law Clinic. She was also selected as Scholars at Risk (SAR) Canada Fellow through Windsor Law’s Transnational Law and Justice Network Fellowship where she collaborated with the SAR National Steering Committee to establish a national chapter in Canada committed to advocating for academic freedom by protecting the rights of threatened scholars around the world. Prior to graduating law school, Oshani published an article with Pace Environmental Law Review, which focuses on the intersection between refugee law and international environmental law and critically analyses the legal protection gaps for climate displaced peoples during the impeding global climate crisis.

Oshani holds a Juris Doctor degree from University of Windsor and an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Law and Justice from Laurentian University. Her diverse legal experiences have allowed her to not only appreciate the importance of legal advocacy but to recognize how different areas of law can impact one another. This helps her to think outside the box and critically analyse each client’s legal matter through a uniquely informed perspective.

Oshani speaks English and Sinhalese.
