The new Interim Caregiver program has recently opened this month and will be available until June 4, 2019. This limited program will allow certain caregivers who have taken care of children, elderly, and disabled persons in their homes to apply for permanent residence. In order to qualify for this program the individual must meet the following requirements:
Hold a work permit, or is currently awaiting the decision on a work permit extension or work permit restoration application.

Have worked full-time (at least 30 hours/week) for at least one year on a work permit obtained under the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (with a valid LMIA) as a caregiver for a child in their home (NOC 4411) or home support worker for elderly or disabled persons (NOC 4412) or a combination of the two occupations. This experience needs to be gained after November 30, 2014.

You must have a CLB skill level of 5 for each language skill for English or French and obtain that score on your IELTS, CELPIP, or TEF exam.

You must have completed the equivalent of a Canadian high-school degree that was obtained in or outside of Canada.
