New OINP Permanent Residence Program for Farm Workers and Low-skilled Construction Positions

The Ontario government has just opened a new Permanent Residence program called the “In-demand Skills Stream”.  This program is for Farm work and Low-skilled Construction positions in Ontario.  Here are some of the main criteria to qualify:

  • Workers must have a permanent, full-time job offer in one of the following occupations:
    • Farm Workers:
      • General farm workers
      • Nursery and greenhouse workers
      • Harvesting labourers
      • Industrial butchers and meat cutters, poultry preparers, and related workers
    • Construction Workers:
      • Heavy Equipment Operators
      • Residential and commercial installers and servicers
      • Construction trade helpers and labourer
  • The job offer must meet the prevailing wage for the occupation
  • Workers must have at least one year of work experience in the above occupations in Ontario in the past three years
  • Workers must be able to achieve at least CLB 4 on their English/French language exams
  • Workers must have at least a high-school education
  • Workers must have a minimum level of savings to support themselves and their families if their salary is not enough for the first year
  • Employers must meet eligibility criteria with regard to income, size, and length of business activity (same as the other Employer-based programs)
