The Ontario government has just opened a new Permanent Residence program called the “In-demand Skills Stream”. This program is for Farm work and Low-skilled Construction positions in Ontario. Here are some of the main criteria to qualify:
- Workers must have a permanent, full-time job offer in one of the following occupations:
- Farm Workers:
- General farm workers
- Nursery and greenhouse workers
- Harvesting labourers
- Industrial butchers and meat cutters, poultry preparers, and related workers
- Construction Workers:
- Heavy Equipment Operators
- Residential and commercial installers and servicers
- Construction trade helpers and labourer
- Farm Workers:
- The job offer must meet the prevailing wage for the occupation
- Workers must have at least one year of work experience in the above occupations in Ontario in the past three years
- Workers must be able to achieve at least CLB 4 on their English/French language exams
- Workers must have at least a high-school education
- Workers must have a minimum level of savings to support themselves and their families if their salary is not enough for the first year
- Employers must meet eligibility criteria with regard to income, size, and length of business activity (same as the other Employer-based programs)
