IRCC has recently announced a number of programs that would allow refugees or family members from certain countries to obtain permanent residence in Canada. These are great alternatives to the overseas refugee programs. Many of the new program have a cap or deadline so it is critical to apply as soon as possible. Here are brief explanations of these programs:
Immigration Pathway for Colombian, Haitian and Venezuelan Nationals with family in Canada
To be eligible an Applicant must:
- Be a Colombian, Haitian or Venezuelan national.
- Be located in Mexico, Central of South America, or the Caribbean.
- Be a spouse, common law partner, child, grandchild, parent, grandparent, or sibling of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident who is willing to provide support for one year.
- Only 11, 000 applications will be accepted
Permanent Residence for Ukrainian Nationals with family in CanadaTo be eligible an Applicant must:
- Be a Ukrainian national
- Be in Canada and have valid legal status when submitting an application.
- Be a spouse, common law partner, child, grandchild, parent, grandparent, or sibling of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident who is willing to provide support for one year.
Economic Mobility Pathway Pilot
To be eligible an Applicant must:
- Be a refugee or displaced person having proof of registration or a positive refugee status document from the UNHCR or temporary protected status in another country.
- Be living outside of Canada.
- Have a full time job offer in Canada.
- Have at least one year of work experience working in the same or a similar position to the one being offered.
- Have an educational credential.The level of education required is dependent on the position being offered.
- Must have language scores of CLB 4 or above. The language score required is also dependent on the position being offered.
