Earlier today, Minister Sean Fraser announced two important measures for international students. Here’s what you need to know:
From November 15, 2022, to December 31, 2023, international students in Canada who are able to work off-campus using their study permit will no longer be subject to the 20-hour per week cap. Instead, there will be no limitation on the number of hours worked off-campus. This temporary measure, however, will only apply to those students who already hold study permits, have an approval letter but have not yet arrived in Canada, and those who have applied before October 7, and are awaiting approval. Secondly, starting this month, IRCC will be launching a pilot to automate the processing of in-Canada study permit extension applications with the goal of decreasing the processing times for simple applications.
