The Minister has just released the information about the Parents/Grandparents Sponsorship Program for 2022. Once again, only those who had submitted their interest to sponsor forms for the 2020 program will be eligible to receive an invitation to apply. Here are the details:
- Interest to Sponsor Forms – 2020
Only those who had already submitted their Interest to Sponsor (ITS) forms in 2020 will be eligible for the upcoming draw. They are not opening a new interest to sponsor pool this year.
- Invitations to Apply
IRCC will be sending 23,100 invitations to those who had submitted their ITS forms in 2020 based on a random draw. This will take place over the next two weeks. Make sure that you continuously check the email account that was used when submitting your ITS. Do not forget to also check your junk mail!
- Income
You will be assessed based on your income for 2019, 2020, and 2021. Recognizing financial difficulties caused be the pandemic, for the 2020 and 2021 tax years, the income requirements will only be the minimum necessary income without the additional 30% and regular Employment Insurance benefits as well as COVID-19 benefits like CERB will be counted towards income.
- Days to Submit
If you are invited to apply, you have until December 24, 2022 to submit your application. Incomplete applications will be returned and you will not likely have another opportunity to resubmit the application in this round.
