There has been a number of important immigration announcements this summer. Here are the top 5:
- BORDER OPENING
Borders are set to open to Covid19-vaccinated travellers from around the world on September 7 (August 9 for American citizens and permanent residents residing in the United States). To qualify you must be fully vaccinated by a Canadian government-accepted vaccine and have waited at least 14 days since your last vaccination. Currently, those who are fully vaccinated may also be exempt from the quarantine period upon arrival.
- WORK PERMITS FOR TR TO PR APPLICANTS
Beginning July 26, Work Permit extensions are available to those who have submitted their TR to PR applications. These will be open work permits that are valid until December 31, 2022.
- IN-DEMAND CATEGORY OPEN
OINP’s In-Demand Skills stream is now open. Foreign workers with a job offer and a minimum of 9 months experience in Ontario in one of the eligible in-demand occupations, may be able to submit their profiles into the pool.
- PR PATHWAYS FOR HK RESIDENTS
Two pathways for PR have been announced for Hong Kong residents. To be eligible, you need : to have graduated in Canada from an eligible program within 3 years of application; or have graduated in the last 5 years anywhere in the world from an eligible program and have 1 year of work experience in Canada within 3 years of application.
- OUT OF STATUS CONSTRUCTION WORKER PROGRAM
Starting on July 30, 2021, the government will be removing the language test and income tax filing requirements for the Out of Status Construction Worker Program. For more information, click here to see our previous posting about this program.
