In the first month of 2023, we’ve received some good news from IRCC. Many more family members of work permit holders will be eligible for open work permits starting January 30. Also, the Out-of-Status Construction Workers in the GTA Permanent Residence program has been extended for this year. Here are the details on Family Permits:
Family Work Permits
Currently only married spouses/common-law partners of high-skilled workers with work permits are eligible for open work permits. However starting on January 30, the following people will be allowed to qualify for open work permit:
- Married spouses, common-law partners, and dependent children of work permit holders who work in any job in Canada
- Married spouses, common-law partners, and dependent children of work permit holders who have applied for permanent residence (even if they don’t work in a job in Canada).
- Spouses and dependent children of low-skilled workers who hold work permits under the seasonal agricultural stream and the agricultural stream of the TFWP would not be eligible for these work permits
