Beginning today, IRCC will be implementing the new NOC 2021 system which is the classification for occupations in the Canadian immigration system. This system will affect LMIAs and employer-specific work permits as well as permanent residence applications such as Express Entry and Provincial Nominee Programs.
Here are the specifics for the new NOC codes:
Instead of the previous 5 categories, the new system will have 6 TEER categories. Occupations that fall under TEER 0, 1, 2, and 3 will be considered high-skilled. Occupations that fall under TEER 4 and 5 will be considered low-skilled.Some occupations under the old system have now been split into different occupations in the new system
The occupations listed below that were previously classified as low-skilled have now been classified as high-skilled.
- Payroll administrators
- Production logistics co-ordinators
- Dental assistants and dental laboratory assistants
- Nurse aides, orderlies and patient service associates
- Pharmacy technical assistants and pharmacy assistants
- Other assisting occupations in support of health services
- Other technical occupations in therapy and assessment
- Elementary and secondary school teacher assistants
- Sheriffs and bailiffs
- Correctional and service officers
- By-law enforcement and other regulatory officers
- Grain merchandisers and livestock sales representatives – wholesale
- Estheticians, electrologists and related occupations (such as tattoo artists)
- General building maintenance workers and building superintendents
- Residential and commercial installers and servicers
- Pest controllers and fumigators
- Other repairers and servicers
- Electronic service technicians
- Transport truck drivers
- Bus drivers, subway operators and other transit operators
- Heavy equipment operators
- Aircraft assemblers and aircraft assembly inspectors
These occupations previously classified as high-skilled are now classified as low-skilled:
- Tourism information officer and tourism information technician
- Air transport ramp attendants
- Court clerks and related court services occupations
- Primary combat members of the Canadian Armed Forces
- Other performers
- Design, styling, and visual merchandisers
- Program leaders and instructors in recreation, sport and fitness
- Grain elevator operator
- Operators and attendants in amusement, recreation and sport
- Meat cutters and fishmongers
- Tailors, dressmakers, furriers and millners
- Rigging workers
- Specialized livestock workers
- Feedlot herd attendant
